Getting to me

Selby sits between York, Leeds and Doncaster, and the train station is a short walk from the studio. There's no parking at the door, but there are car parks a couple of minutes away and on-street parking around the town centre. Clients travel in regularly from York, Leeds, Doncaster, Goole, Tadcaster, Pontefract and Wakefield, if you're coming a distance say so in your enquiry and I'll try to group your sittings into fewer, longer days.

Health & safety

Registered and inspected by North Yorkshire Council under the Local Government (Miscellaneous Provisions) Act 1982. I operate using a disposable set up, with needle cartridges opened and disposed of right infront of you using appropriate clinical waste facilities.

Everything is carefully wrapped and sanitised to provide a safe and clinical environment.

Get hold of me

On the road

Conventions
& guest spots

The studio is home, but it isn't the only place I tattoo. Books open for each show a few weeks beforehand and convention days go quickly, if you want a slot at a specific one, get your enquiry in early and say which.

Somewhere you'd like to see Veil & Thorn? Shows and guest spots get booked on demand as much as anything, tell me where you are.

How it works

From your idea to a healed tattoo

Five steps, usually three to six weeks end to end.

01

You send the idea

Reference images, rough size in centimetres, where on the body, and anything you'd rather I didn't do. A single sentence is enough to start with.

I reply within two working days.

02

We agree the plan

A firm quote, a realistic number of sittings, and a date. A non-refundable booking fee by bank transfer secures it and comes off the final price, nothing goes in the diary until that's paid.

Message me early and we can reschedule, life happens.

03

I draw it

Everything tatooed is drawn custom, designed to fit the flow of your body and work with it rather than agaisnt it.

Designs are revealed when you attend your appointment, where we discuss any minor changes you may like to make.

04

The session

Stencil placed and re-placed until it's right in the mirror, nothing starts until you say the word. Breaks whenever you want one, and numbing cream if you'd rather, just ask.

Eat properly beforehand and bring something sugary.

05

The heal

You leave wrapped, with written aftercare to refer back to. My email and social media DM's are always open should you need any advice along the way.

Support doesn't stop when you leave the chair.

Questions

Before
you ask

The things people message about most. If yours isn't here, just ask, no question is too obvious, and I'd rather you asked than guessed.

How old do I have to be?

18. It's a criminal offence in the UK to tattoo anyone under 18, even with a parent's permission, so please don't ask me to. Bring photo ID, passport, driving licence or a PASS-marked card. No ID, no tattoo.

How much will it cost?

There's no price list, because most work is priced per piece rather than by the hour. Size, placement and detail all come into it, and there are sometimes offers running. Send me your idea and I'll come back with a firm quote before anything is booked, and it doesn't move on the day.

How do I confirm an appointment?

All appointments are confirmed with a booking fee, payable by bank transfer, which is deducted from the total price.

The details will come across with your quote, once a date and time is agreed. The booking fee is only lost in the event of cancellation, or if you don't show up - Life happens, as long as 72 hours notice is given, message me and we'll move it.

Full T&C's will be provided with the booking information.

How do I pay?

Cash or bank transfer, on the day. The booking fee that confirms your appointment is bank transfer only, and I'll send the details with your quote. Card isn't taken.

Does it hurt?

Yes, some areas more than others. Everybody's pain threshold is entirely different, so rest assured I operate in a way that is accomodating to everyone.

Stay off the drink the night prior, eat a proper meal beforehand, and bring some sugary snacks along with you.

Please let me know in advance if you wish to use numbing cream.

Can you cover up an old tattoo?

As an artist I am competent at carrying out small scale coverups, but please bear in mind coverups need to be bigger and darker than your existing tattoo.

Send a clear, well-lit photo of the existing tattoo and I'll tell you straight what would be realistically achievable.

How do I look after it?

Full aftercare instructions come with every tattoo, but in summary wrap should be left on as instructed before washing the tattoo gently with lukewarm water.

Thin layers of cocoa butter should be used to moisturise the tattoo once it has fully dried out. No swimming baths, saunas, sunbeds or high UV exposure for a minimum of 2-3 weeks; any scabbing should be left to fall away naturally.

Is the studio accessible?

Yes. It's a ground floor premises and step-free throughout, so it works for wheelchair users and for anyone who'd rather not take on stairs. It's a relaxed, unhurried room and nobody is rushed, whether it's your first tattoo or your twentieth. If there's anything that would make the day easier for you, put it in your enquiry and I'll sort it.

Where exactly are you?

Burns Ink, Selby, North Yorkshire, YO8 4AR, registered and inspected by North Yorkshire Council. Selby sits between York, Leeds and Doncaster and the train station is a short walk away. There's no parking at the door, but you're in the town centre, so there are car parks nearby and on-street parking around it.

Do you tattoo at conventions?

Yes, see on the road for what's confirmed. Books open a few weeks before each show and days fill fast, so put your enquiry in early and name the convention.

Enquiries

Tell me
what you want

No idea is too vague, "something with moths, somewhere on my arm" is a perfectly good start. If it turns out I'm not the right tattooer for it, I'll say so and point you at someone who is.

Anything that helps: pictures you like the look of, a photo of the spot on your body, a rough sketch on paper. Up to 10 images, 12MB each.

I reply within two working days. Nothing is booked until the booking fee is paid and a date is confirmed. Your details are used to answer this enquiry and nothing else, as set out in the privacy notice.

    Received

    That's with me.

I pick enquiries up on weekday mornings and reply within two working days. If it's been longer than that, check your spam folder before assuming I've ignored you, and then message me on Instagram or Facebook.
